As you know style and fashion is my thing and as I had such a good response with my style and fashion chat interview with British Olympian Jamie Baulch, I decided to keep it up this year. Why? Well not only because we are all nosey and love to know what famous or influential people really think and love to wear, but also because I actually like doing them. I guess my background as a broadcast journalist plays a huge part as I really love and still enjoy finding out about the person behind the name.

That is why I am so excited to have for my first interview this year with  British MP Dawn Butler. Obviously Ms Dawn Butler doesn’t normally chat about her style and fashion purely because she has more important things to do.

In 2005, Dawn Butler became the third black woman MP and was the first  in 2009, to speak at the Commons despatch box. Throughout her career, she has consistently spoken up for the underrepresented and has highlighted instances of racial discrimination in society and politics. For her efforts British Vogue  recently recognised her as one of the most influential women to watch in 2020. However it is only right for me to show you a little bit more than just the MP side in the first part of my interview (that you can watch below) where we talk style and fashion and can you believe it shoes!!

Shoes as we all know was invented because there was a real and practical need to protect the feet from outside effects long ago. This seemingly simple human need turned into a quickly growing industry in which design was just as important as functionality. Today, they are part of a factory industry earning huge amounts of money each year.

Dawn Butler MP highlights some of her favourite shoe brands in my video so I won’t spoil it by discussing it here. But before you disappear to watch it below. I will let you know the trends for shoes to look out for this year in 2021.

After nearly a year of spending more time at home, our heels have taken a backseat to more practical styles as we prioritise comfort first. However, style need not be sacrificed, so in 2021, watch out for  cosy slippers, sturdy boots and maybe a platform or two. Here are my top five trends to watch out for;

Slippers – Currently having their biggest moment to date, so much so that we are wearing our favourite pairs straight out of the house. Now its not my thing. But if you are into this then check out these pair from Manolo Blahnik who is well-known for glamourous stilettos but the label has some gorgeous flats too. If you like this but  are looking for something a little more sturdy and not so “oh my gosh she is walking down the road with slippers’ I like these slide slippers from Uggs which are more like sandals.

Equestrian Riding boots – With the Crown in full swing and many horse riding scenes, you will be right at home in a pair of these. But come on lets be honest you don’t need to be at stables to wear them. I like the Bryn boots from  LK Bennet. They are versatile enough to wear day in and day out. Slip them on with an oversized coat for perfection.

Minimalist sandals – The classic thong sandal has finally been elevated to be a fit for the fashion crowd. Once considered a fashion faux pas, thongs now flaunt the chicest heels, texture, and embellishments. Not to mention they are ideal for showing off a fresh pedicure. Jimmy Choo do a great one which you can see here.

Lug Sole – You’ll soon learn (if you don’t know already) how much love I love the lug sole, so seeing it combined with the classic Mary Jane style means this is the shoe that has everything we’re looking for in the New Year. I have been raving about this pair from Proenza. 

Last one from me are Wild West Boots,  If you’re looking for the perfect aesthetic that meets casual glam, Western style is it. Whether your country style is Little House on the Prairie or Indiana Jones, these are the boots that can truly fit into any wardrobe.  I’m loving this pair from Givenchy which is Parisian chic meets the Wild West to create this striking pair from Givenchy’s new-season collection.

Tip of the day: I would always say when wearing shoes make sure you try before you buy. If this is not possible because of lockdown etc. make sure they have a clause that you can return them if they don’t fit. The last thing you want to happen is that you have shoes that you bought but just can’t wear.

Anyway this week I want to talk about what Little Bevan are famous for, in my last look at party wear for a spell. As with most things we have adapted to online shopping and having things now.  But if you’re anything like me, what comes through my door is not often what I expect or hoped for. That’s where brands like Little Bevan come in, where you can choose from their classic design collection or come up with your own idea and see the magic happen.

On the left our model wears the Lola dress from Little Bevan’s Couture collection which is available made-to-order and made-to-measure in ivory silk and silk polka dot organza. The outfit has been finished off with floral milliner Clea Broad’s faux hydrangea headband. Our boy model on the right wears cool silk sailor shorts with matching silk button braces and is finished off with a collarless Mandarin long sleeve silk shirt.

Whilst for many a bespoke outfit especially for a child is an investment for only very special occasions. But I have to say if attention to detail is a must, then look no further, as the quality of craftsmanship especially from Little Bevan is second to none. As you can see from the image above, the Lola dress is finished off with matching silk buttons and loops and comes in a variety of colours for the sash. As for the sailor shorts you have a wide variety of fabric to choose from, from linen to velvet which caters for the winter months and you can opt for the trousers to come with or without braces. So don’t be afraid to try. You may be pleasantly surprised!

Hello lovely readers, this week is all about finding that must have dress for the party season. Known as the little black dress or better known of late as the LBD, this winter is all about the velvet revolution that has taken place on the catwalk.

Gone is the arty, older woman appeal and in comes on trend chic. Just take a look at the Lace collar velvet dress featured above from Warehouse. Not only does it have this seasons velvet but it also has touches of on trend lace to boot as well.

If its embellishments you like then why not try one of a floral variety as featured above on this Needle and Thread maxi dress number? With a plunge back, front split and burnout velvet floral design you will definitely stand out with this.

If on the other hand you’re a lady that loves off the shoulder then you should head straight to Topshop for the gorgeous crushed velvet Mayal strapless dress  featured above. Fully corseted for total structure, this mini dress by Unique will make you feel like a million dollars.

If however you are after a different kind of off the shoulder, then try the Mango velvet dress featured on the left. In a smooth velvet fabric, it comes in a bodycon style and features a stylish asymmetric neckline. For something else head to Asos for their Asymmetric Bandeau Mini shown on the right.

Finally, if you like long sleeves, then why not try this look from Needle and Thread which features bell Sleeves and a  plunging neck line? Very 70s and quite bohemian don’t you think?

Hello lovely readers, Christmas is all about fun, family and friends and to get you in the mood I thought we would get festive with some corking jumpers you might want to wear over the holidays. But straying away from the norm, I’m showing you what else is on offer to buy.

Heading straight to Topshop I was pleasantly surprised to see their winter scene top and skirt featured above and below. Definitely one to wear if you want to get in the festive spirit but wish to do it with style.

If you are looking for something more traditional then its safe to say that jumper dresses are still in and Asos have both modern and original. On the left is your traditional winter scene dress featuring a dog for all those dog lovers and on the right is a more modern look with embellished stars.

If you love animals and reindeers imparticularly, then Boohoo.com have a few jumper dresses right up your street. Share your love of nature with the Mya Reindeer Jumper dress on your left and the Emma Reindeer Jumper dress on your right.

Lastly, with a final nod to nordic knits it has to be the Mia Snowflake dress below featuring reindeer and snowflakes.

Hello lovely readers, last week my friend was looking for a black tie event outfit for her work and told me that whilst online shops were great, many of them disappointed when the clothes actually arrived. So for those of you who are in a similar position, this post on party wear are from retailers where you can go and try on as well as buy online. But having said that these dresses seem to be flying off the shelves as I write, so you’d better be quick.

If you love this year’s off the shoulder look why not try Coast’s Keeley feather skirt dress featured above. It has an off the shoulder bardot neckline with an over feather and sequin applique overlay skirt. If however you like the more traditional look how about the Ophelia heart jacquard dress which features a velvet trim bandeau bow neckline and high low hem. Or the super trendy Twin Sister number for Topshop (below right).

If you like to glimmer and shine, how about looking at metallics this year. Ted Baker has come up with a cracker, the Dafney midi dress featured below which has a long sleeved metallic fabric, nice!

But if you are after something a little different have a look at the Chloey Jacquard dress , which features full length sleeves and a show-stopping metallic floral print skirt with underneath tulle. Alternatively don’t be matt and stand out from the crowd with this metallic knot dress by Wal G.

If you like separates Coast has come up with the gorgeous Dominica top below, crafted from romantic floral lace and features a sheer overlay. Along with the Dorianna skirt which offers a bold floral print and tulle under skirt for exaggerated fullness.

For something shorter try Reiss Ruffles dress beautifully crafted from horizontal layers of red fabric (on the left). Otherwise try Topshop’s Geo Knit dress which combines on trend metallics.

For those of you who love lace, you know this season its all about long sleeves and Coast offers an alternative colour to set you apart from the rest with the Dara Lace midi dress below .

If you want alternatives to this then it has to be Topshop’s lace midi dress which features feminine florals and a stand out scarlett colour. Otherwise go maxi with their premium lace must have panel dress.

Finally I couldn’t do a partywear post and not feature sequins could I? They just won’t go away, so go bold with Coast’s Mistrella dress.

For as an alternative, Topshop comes up trumps with this deep v plunge dress on the left or the Moonshine dress on the right.

Hello lovely readers, its been awhile I know, but I did an amazing thing in September and gave birth to a gorgeous little girl, who has kept me rather busy. That said, with Christmas just around the corner I didn’t want to see out the year without touching base with you again. So over the next few weeks I will be posting bargains and fashion items that you might like to take advantage of and purchase for yourself or as a gift.

Today’s post comes just before Black Friday and Cyber Monday where there will be lots of bargains to be had and as winter has just kicked in for us in the UK, I thought why not start with coats and jackets, so lets get started.

If you are looking for something to dress up a casual outfit, how about the waterfall gilet featured above by Influence at Asos? This soft touch wool rich knit has been reduced to just £22.

If you prefer a cape why not try this on trend check blanket cape, reduced from £75 to £45. However if you are looking for something more formal, why not try this Helene Berman Navy Faux Fur Collar Cape below? Reduced to £110 the look is straight of the catwalk and is a real steal.

For those of you who are looking for extra warmth you can’t go wrong with the below Limited Edition faux suede shearling coat from Marks and Spencer. Reduced to £66.50 you will definitely keep the cold out from head to toe.

If however, you like the shearling effect but want something shorter how about this shearling trim jacket from Ted Baker reduced from £400 to £289?

If its fur that you want, why not go all out and try one of the jackets below? Barneys original faux fur collarless coat has been reduced to £60 or for those of you who want to show off your fun side the Influence Camo Faux Fur Coat also reduced from £115 to £60 could suit you better.

Hello lovely readers, for a little while now, I’ve been keeping a secret and today, I’m beyond excited to share my news, that a shoot I styled back in April is featured in You & Your Wedding magazine and hits stores today, yippee!!

Working alongside a great team which consisted of the super talented photographer Eddie Judd, florist Zita Elze, cake maker Elizabeth Emporium, caterer Kalm Kitchen and located at a fantastic new wedding venue  Millbridge Court in Surrey I think together we’ve been able to offer brides a bright colour alternative for their wedding day, that they might not have considered.

My inspiration behind this shoot was Pantone’s 2015 colour, Tangerine, a juicy, energizing shade that provides a bright pop of colour without being jarring on the eye and in that I set out to create an orange grove of colour with greenery and scents aplenty.

The focus became the jaw dropping hanging floral blooms and fruit mixed with low vases full of flowers. With vintage touches of cream and gold, I combined old world romance with the natural beauty of outdoors and the result was ‘Tangerine Bloom’.

And here is just a little look at what we created that day. But I will shortly be showing you some more of the gorgeous images, explaining in detail my inspiration and thought processes behind the shoot.

Hello lovely readers, for a little while now, I have had to keep shtum about some really exciting news. I still have to wait till next month for it to come into fruition but today I just wanted to share a little snippet and wet your appetite.

Earlier this year I felt inspired to come up with a styled bridal reception shoot featuring bright colours that most brides would shy away from and enlisted the super talented photographer Eddie Judd and brand new Surrey wedding venue  Millbridge Court in Surrey to help create something special. Other talented suppliers were brought on board including florist Zita Elze and her team (who you can see with me below) and the amazing Kalm Kitchen.

Here’s a little look at what we created that day and obviously I would love to show you more – but I’m afraid I can’t. However, I’m thrilled to be able to tell you that this shoot will be featured in the next issue of You & Your Wedding and as is on sale on 17th September. There’s not long to wait and I look forward to sharing more with you very soon.

Hello lovely readers, it’s most definitely wedding season right now and after my years as a wedding planner, I still can’t get enough of beautiful wedding dresses. I also know that I’m not alone in my adoration, so today I’m taking a look back at Barcelona Bridal Week (which I featured back in May) and showcasing some more designs for 2016 specifically for those of you are looking for your dream dress for next year.

Yolan Cris (above and below) is a name you might not know but should absolutely be on your bridal radar. Whilst I might not recommend a super-sheer gown for a traditional wedding (like above), the design of the gown really is something special and I love that such daring gowns appeared on the catwalk. To me, this is a sign of how far bridal fashion has come of late and how innovative designers are becoming. However, there are plenty of wearable gowns in this collection from hi-low hemmed designs to fabulous separates and amazing halter-necked gowns with pleated skirts. It’s such a treat to see unusual fabrics and patterns gracing the shows and Yolan Cris does this better than anyone.

The always-elegant Pronovias label took things up a notch with their new collection. Yes, the sophistication is still there in abundance but there’s also a bit of an edge to these new designs that make them perfect for the modern, fashion conscious bride. Bridal capes and from-the-waist trains were very much in evidence and I predict these will be incredibly popular over the coming months. There were also plenty of designer touches that also caught my eye in this collection from pocketed skirts and low, jeweled backed gowns to asymmetric sleeves and three-dimensional, botanically inspired necklines.

Justin Alexander has long been known for his Princess Bride style gowns but the new collection dropped a little bit of the sugary sweetness and brought more than a touch of confident sex appeal to the Barcelona catwalk. Those deep, dramatic necklines and illusion backs are so current whilst the column gowns and those with patterned layered skirts also make me sigh with happiness. Of course, the traditional ballgown styles and cute tea length dresses are still in the collection but it’s the new designs that step away from the traditional Justin Alexander look.

Finally, Jesus Peiro is a brand that has become increasingly popular in recent years and with good reason. The newest collection, which debuted in Barcelona, is sure to win this Spanish label even more fans around the world. Richly textured fabrics, full skirts, innovative necklines and stunning detailing were all on show and I loved the delicate, laces that overlaid skirts and bodices. Jesus Peiro isn’t afraid to be a bit different and, in the sometimes cookie-cutter world of bridal, that should be celebrated. Feather-covered bodices, separates in clashing fabrics, sequined covered gowns and some fierce monochrome designs all put Jesus Peiro’s latest collection on a whole new level.
