Earlier this week, stars turned out for the
Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute gala, fondly known as the Met Ball. This fundraising event (hosted by American Vogue editor Anna Wintour) is seen as one of the most glamourous events on the fashion calendar as the world’s top designers queue up to dress celebrity guests who attend.
This year’s gala paid homage to British-born designer
Charles James creator of epic pastel ballgowns for society swans, so with this dress code in mind the stars hit the red carpet. Just picking out a few of the dresses that caught my eye Sarah Jessica Parker above (one of the ball’s co-chairs) did not disappoint in a custom-made
Oscar de la Renta monochrome gown featuring that train.
This year Topshop has joined fashion heavyweights like Chanel and Stella McCartney to create stunning bespoke gowns so I was impressed to see some on Kendall Jenner, Chanel Iman, Jourdan Dunn and Toni Garrn. Fabulous fishtails and great colours are featured and even though these are one of kind you can still get the red carpet look with Topshop’s
Prom looks and
limited edition collections.
Shining out for me are these gorgeous ladies who looked stunning in plunging necklines but remaining oh so sophisticated. On the left Jessica Alba wore a
Diane von Furstenberg dress and clutch, Leighton Meester in
Emilio Pucci and on the right Blake Lively wore a custom-made
Gucci Première gown, lovely!
For a more structured look I love the dress worn by Taylor Swift in another custom-made gown by Oscar de la Renta featuring a gorgeous back which I talked about in a
previous post and Karolina Kurkova in her
Marchesa spring/summer 2011 ballgown which features white and blue floral detail – definitely one of the most dramatic ensembles of the evening.
For something less ball gown but still making a statment I loved on the left Marion Cotillard in a
Dior Couture spring/summer 2014 dress and Joy Bryant on the right in a beautiful one shoulder
Marchesa dress.
And ok what Beyonce is wearing is not your ususal summer dress but because its sheer and features crystals, stones and studs it makes my list. Beyoncé wears Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci dress.
So which one of these would you rock for all the festivities around your wedding?
